We are Jim and Angie, and we are not very good at relaxing

We land somewhere (a campground, a hotel, a ship, an apartment in a city we’ve never been to) and then we go and find the thing nearby that nobody has written up properly. A roadside oddity. A door with no handle. The floor of a hotel that visiting basketball teams swear is haunted.

Sometimes it isn’t obscure at all. Sometimes it’s the thing everyone goes to, and the useful part isn’t telling you it’s beautiful. You already know that. It’s which entrance, which hour, and who should honestly give it a miss.

How this actually works

Angie is the one who remembers what was there. The miniature house in the greenhouse at the Biltmore, with the little train running around it. Neither of us wrote that down, and only one of us can still describe it.

Jim is not the details guy. He will read the whole plaque out loud and retain approximately none of it. Ask him about anything that happened on the trip and you will get a warm, confident, largely fictional summary.

Ask him how the website works, though, and something happens. He will explain why you should AirDrop the photos instead of texting them, because texting compresses them, and then keep going for some time. This is the nerd part of Nerdy Travel Couple. It is not evenly distributed.

Between the two of us we usually end up with the real story. It takes longer than it needs to.

What you’ll find here

We got the RV in November and stayed at Peace River Oaks that December, which is how we worked out we liked this enough to keep doing it. We’re based in Lakeland, Florida. Where we go changes. The method doesn’t.

For a long time we wrote the same posts everyone else writes, and they were fine, and nobody read them. So now we write the ones we’d actually want to find: what it cost, what surprised us, what we’d warn you about, and who should skip it.

That last one matters. Anywhere that’s right for everyone is usually not worth the detour.
